My name is Larissa Walker,
the 2019-2020 Junior Ambassador for the Great Northern
Exhibition. So far this year has been an excellent experience representing the GNE along with
my sidekick Grace Millsap the Senior Ambassador. When I was approached to run for Junior
Ambassador, I had mixed feelings, but I'm so glad I did and it has been an honour.
My first event of course was Fair weekend. The first night we headed to the midway for
some rides. I was pretty tuckered out by the end of the night after showing my calf all day at my
4-H Achievement and then the Ambassador Competition. The rest of the weekend Grace and I
were busy handing out ribbons to various livestock events, started the truck and tractor pulls,
picked the best looking demolition car, had a ride on the horse drawn carriage and my favourite
experience was picking the cutest baby in the baby contest. The weather was fantastic which
made the Fair that much more enjoyable.
My next two events were the Autumn Leaves Fashion Show where I sold tickets for a
raffle and the Clearview 4-H Banquet where I was asked to say a few words as Junior
A few weeks later I attended the District 5 meeting at the Milton Heritage Museum with
Grace. We got to meet ambassadors from various fairs in our district as well as attend a couple
of workshops. After lunch they had an excellent guest speaker to finish the day.
As Christmas was approaching I attended four Santa Claus Parades, Collingwood,
Wasaga Beach, Stayner and Creemore. This was a great time and thanks to volunteers who
provided Grace and I with a great float and of course the heated blanket, it was life saver.
I have had an awesome year representing the GNE as junior ambassador, meeting new
people, learning new things and having lots of fun. Thanks to Grace for being an excellent role
model to me and to the volunteers of the Ambassador Committee who have helped to make this
a great learning experience for me. This is definitely an experience I will never forget and
thanks to the GNE for giving me this opportunity. I look forward to the time when I am old
enough to run for Senior Ambassador!
