2019 Senior Ambassador's Message

My name is Grace Millsap and I am the 2019-2020 Senior Ambassador for the Collingwood Agricultural Society, home of the Great Northern Exhibition. Our Junior Ambassador Larissa Walker and I have had an amazing year so far, starting with the Fair weekend. We had lots of different activities to take part in. We handed out ribbons at the various livestock events, started the tractor and truck pulls, helped out at the baby photo contest, rode on horse drawn carriage wagons, took part in the antique tractor parade and to finish off the weekend we drew the tickets for the winners of the quilt and the Stayner Lions draw for the brand new Mustang car. When Fair weekend came to an end, Larissa and I were just getting started on our many duties and events in the year to come. Following the Fair we have been to a couple of events including the Fair Board President's Reception, the Autumn Leaves Fashion Show and the OAAS District Five meeting in Milton.
At that meeting, we met with all of the Ambassadors from the other Fairs in our district. In late November and early December, Larissa and I took part in the Santa Claus Parades in the area. We were freezing most of the time but definitely had a great experience. We even won Prettiest Float in the Collingwood Parade! Special thanks to Judy Ferguson for decorating. Thanks also to everyone who volunteered to drive us around in all of the parades. In February, I had the amazing opportunity to represent our Fair at the Annual OAAS Convention. I learned new public speaking skills, enjoyed many team bonding activities, and took part in many fun, engaging and interesting seminars throughout the three day convention. I also had the opportunity to meet many different music performers at the convention showcases, who were very impressed with mine and the other Ambassadors' line dancing skills! I had an amazing time at Convention and am so thankful to the Fair Board for making the Convention weekend possible for me! I am now looking forward to the OAAS District 5 Ambassador Competition in June that will be hosted at our Fairgrounds, and the Canadian National Exhibition Ambassador of the Fairs Competition in August.
I wish to extend a special thank you to Heather Walker, Karen VanStavern, Maureen McLeod and Rylee Sampson for taking time to chaperone Larissa and me this year! And a very special thank you to all of the generous sponsors of the Ambassador Competition who donate each year and help make the competitions possible. I am definitely enjoying my time as the Sr. Ambassador and am extremely grateful for all the opportunities that it has provided for me. I have met some amazing people and opened doors to so many new possibilities.
To anyone looking for a new challenge and a learning/growing opportunity - I encourage you to take part in the Ambassador program. It truly is a wonderful experience. As I embark on the new chapters in my life, graduating grade 12 at Stayner Collegiate Institute and attending College in the fall. I can reflect back on my time and experiences of representing the GNE as both the Jr. and Sr. Ambassador with amazing memories, new skills, and friendships that I'm sure will last a long time!
Thank You,
